Soundarya Lahari - Shloka 86 - For warding off evil spirits



Sanskrit Text :

मृषा कृत्वा गोत्रस्खलनमथ वैलक्ष्यनमितं
ललाटे भर्तारं चरणकमले ताडयति ते
चिरादन्तः शल्यं दहनकृतमुन्मूलितवता
तुलाकोटिक्वाणैः किलिकिलित मीशान रिपुणा

Transliteration :

mrushA krutvA gOtrAskhalana matha vailakshya namitam
lalATE bharthAram caraNa kamalE tADayati tE
cirAdantah shalyam dahanakrutamunmUli tavatA
tulAkOTikvANaih kilikilita mIshAna ripuNA

Meaning :

When your lotus-like feet kicked the forehead of your consort (on his third eye), who had, in a playful mood teased  you about by calling you with a wrong name (of a fictitious woman whom he wanted to portray to be dearer to him), was consequently bent in shame; through the jingling of your belled anklets (Kili-Kili sound), the god of love, the enemy of your Lord, found an opportunity for triumph (over Ishana), and thus had is vengence, for being reduced to ashes (by the same third eye) and rankling for a long time, wreaked.

Pooja Vidhi and Proposed Result

If one chants this verse 1000 times a day, for 21 days, offering milk payasam, coconut and honey as prasadam; it is said that one would be able to ward off evil spirits.

காமகோடி நிவாஸினி காசி விசாலினி

நாமமாரி அறனும் அழைக்க
நாதனை கோபிக்க

வேகம் கண்டு சிவனும் வணங்க
விழியில் அடிகள் ஸ்பரிசிக்க
ஆகம் மெலியும் அனங்கன் கோஷிக்க
அணிசிலம்பு கிணீர் கிணீர் என
