Soundarya Lahari - Shloka 56 - For freedom from bondage

तवापर्णे कर्णेजपनयनपैशुन्यचकिता
निलीयन्ते तोये नियतं अनिमेषाः शफरिकाः
इयं च श्रीर्बद्धच्छदपुटकवाटम् कुवलयम्
जहाति प्रत्यूषे निशि च विघटय्य प्रविशति

Transliteration :

tavAparNE karNEjapanayanapaishunyachakitA
nilIyantE tOyE niyatam animEShAh sapharikAh
iyam ca srirbaddhascchadapuTakavATam kuvalayam
jahati pratyUShE nishi ca vighaTayya pravishati


Meaning :

O! Aparna (She who is begotten to none), It is for sure, that the black female Sapharika (Carp) fish in the stream, are afraid to close their eyes, fearing that thine long eyes, resembling them all, would murmur tales of their inferior beauty in to your ears to which they are close to. It is also for sure, that Lakshmi, the Goddess of Wealth and Beauty (who resides in your eyes), leaves the blooming blue lily flowers at daybreak, when its door-like petals close and forces her entry into them during nightfall.


Pooja Vidhi and Proposed Result

If one chants this verse 20000 times a day, for 45 days, offering honey as prasadam; it is said one would be able to get oneself free from bondage.

கரிநீதலின் காந்தியை அபகரிக்கும்
அபர்ணயின் கமல நாணமே

கருணாப்ரவாகமாய் காது ஸமீபமாய்
இரகசிய மர்ம பேதனம் செய்வதைக் கண்டு

கெண்டை மீன்கள் கண்டு அண்டையில்
ஜலமத்தியில் முழிகிடுமே
பெண் திருப்பகலினில் பத்மநயனத்திலும்
வண்ண நைதல்களில் வசிப்பன் இரவினில்

நீலோத்பலம் போல நேத்ர லக்ஷ்மி
நீலயதாக்ஷி நயனந்தன்னில்
கோலாகலமாக ஜாலாவிசாலமாய்
நீலப்ரகாசமாய் லக்ஷ்மி விலாசமாய்
