Soundarya Lahari - Sloka 17 - For Knowledge in Sciences

Sanskrit Text :

सवित्रीभिर्वाचां चाशिमणि शिलाभङ्ग रुचिभिर्
वशिन्यद्याभिस्त्वां सह जननि सञ्चिन्तयति य:
स कर्ता काव्यानां भवति महतां भङ्गिरुचिभिर्
वचोभिर्वाग्देवी वदन कमलामोद मधुरै:

Transliteration :

savitrIbhir vAchAm chashimaNi shilAbhangarucibhir
vashinyadyAbhistvam saha janani sanchintayati yah
sa kartA kAvyAnAm bhavati mahatAm bhangirucibhih
vacObhirvAgdEvI vadana kamalAmOda madhuraih

Meaning :

O Mother! He who worships you along with the eight powers (of Vasini, Kameshwari, Mohini, Vimala, Aruna, Jeyini, Sarveshwari, Kali) who is the source of all vocabulary and has the whiteness like that of a moonstone that has been shattered open,  would achieve talents rivalling that of the great poets such as Kalidasa. He would be able to create poetic works whose beauty would rival the beauty and fragrance of the white lotus on which Goddess Saraswati sits.


Pooja Vidhi and Proposed Result

If one chants this verse 1000 times each day for 45 days, offering honey, milk or unrefined sugar (black sugar) as prasadam, it is said that they would gain expertise in all sciences.

மாதே சர்வ ஜனனி ஜகன்மாதே 

லோக நாதே

அதிமாதுர்யமாய்கவி சாதுர்யமாயருள் 

சசிகாந்தகல்பிளப்பைப் போல் காந்தி 

வாசினி காமேஸ்வரி மோதினி விமல

அருணாஜயினி சர்வேஸ்வரி காளி

அஷ்ட அக்ஷரத்தின் சக்தியோடுந்கூட 

எட்டு சக்ரங்கள் சேர்ந்து நன்றாய் உம்மை 

த்யானிக்கும் பக்தனுக்கு 

கட்டும் மகாகவி காளிதாசன் போலே 

உல்லாசவாக்கின் விலாசம் பெருகிடும் 

பரிமளகமலவதன வாணியின் வாக்கின் 

விலாஸந்தானோ சிருங்கார ரசொலலித

சப்தத்துடன் சரசமாய்கவி 

விசாலமாய் சேர்த்திடும்
