Soundarya Lahari - Sloka 13 - For Victory in Love

Sanskrit Text :

नरं वर्षीयांसं नयनविरसं नर्मसु जडं 

तवापाङ्गालोके पतितं अनुधावन्ति शतशः 

गलद्वेणी बन्धाः कुशकलश  विस्त्रुस्य  सिचया 

हठात् त्रुट्यथ् काञ्च्यो  विगळितदुकूला युवतयः 

Transliteration :


naram varShIyAmsam nayana virasam narmasu jaDam
tavApAngAlOkE patitan anudhAvanti shatashah
galadvENI bandhah kuchakalasha vistrutha sicayA
haThAt truTyat kAncyO vigaLita dukUla yuva tayah


Meaning :
[O mother, with your grace, even] the men who are very old, not good to look at, dim-witted and not suitable in matters of love, would be able to attract young lasses in such a manner that they would run after the men, with disheveled hair, with their upper clothes slipping and their busts showing in the haste, with their waist-bands getting open and their sarees slipping off from the shoulders.


Pooja Vidhi and Proposed Result

If one chants this verse 1000 times a day for 6 days and offers three sweets as prasadam, then it is said that they would achieve victory in matters of love.

Tamil Interpretation

அம்மா உன் கடாக்ஷத்தால் அதிமன்மத பிரய்யோகம்

அறிந்தவர் மகிமை சொல்லப்போமோ 

அம்பே அழகில்லாமல் அதி வ்ருத்தனானாலும்
சும்பா மூடனானாலும் சுந்தரமாக தோன்றும்

நேற்றாதி ரோகமுள்ள நிர்மூடனானாலும்
சுரத்ருட சல்லாபம் தெரியாதவனானாலும்
சக்தி உன் கடாக்ஷத்தால் சௌந்தர்ய ஸ்திரீகளாரும்
மெத்த மன்மதனாக மனம் மகிழ்ந்தொடுவார்

ஆசை கொன்டோடுவாரும் அவிழ்ந்த கூந்தலுடனே
வீசியே நடப்பாரும் விலகிய தலைப்புடன்
ஓசை உள்ள ஒட்டியாணம் ஒடிந்து பூட்டு தெறிக்க
வீசி வெண் பட்ட விழ விசாலாக்ஷி பாதம் தொழ
