Proud to be Indian

It is the 15th of August today. The Independence Day for our country. It is that time of the year when everyone gets into a  "patriotic  high". Though I truly believe that the sense of patriotism and the sense of one's duty towards one's country should not be a periodic one, I have to concede with equal sincerity that this is not the case with most of our country-persons, including me.

In any case, here are a set of videos that I had come across during my hours of browsing through the internet. The videos show us a mirror of who we are and taunt us on what we are supposed to be, not hypocrites, but citizens.

1. Lead India - Tree Ad (TOI) :

This Ad illustrates our general tendency to blame the government, the weather and everything else in the universe, except for ourselves for our problems; while not moving a muscle in contributing for the solution. It also shows, in equal light, the apathy of the ruling class and the policing class.

2. The Silent National Anthem :

This is a silent rendering of our national anthem, in sign language. Truly, expressing love for your country does not necessarily require the vehicle of a spoken language. And for those who do use a spoken language, the rendering gives a window into the feeling with which Rabindranath Tagore had written the anthem.

3. Respect your Nation :

Many of us say that we respect our country, our national flag and our national anthem. But, do we really do that or are those mere words with no actual substance in them?

4. The musical Jana Gana Mana :

A rendering of the national anthem by various reputed artistes.

5. Mile Sur Mera Tumhara :

A popular song, which kindles nostalgia in many. It showcases the richness in the diversity and unity of our country.
