Once upon a time, i.e., about 8 years ago in real time, I came across a video of an animated orchestra. The video was titled "Pipe Dream" and was a musical piece played by an animated musical set-up. The video was produced by a company by the name Animusic, whose focus was precisely that, animating music.
After hearing the 'music', you would also agree that it is a cool animation and quite catchy music. But, there have been many many animations made since by thousands of people, that are more impressive than this one.
However, my post is not about this particular animation. It is about how a group at Intel 'de-animated' this work and created a 'real' version of the set-up running on Intel-Atom processors. Here is the video of the de-animation, or whatever you would choose to call it. The noise of the pneumatic paint-ball guns is a spoiler, but, it is surely an impressive effort.
It is not everyday that some person's imagination is expressed as an animation and then the animation is turned into reality. Interestingly, the word 'Pipedream' means "a vain but fervent hope for an impossible or unlikely situation". Now, this one turned out to be not one...
