Soundarya Lahari - Sloka 08 - Avoiding Birth-Death Cycle

Sanskrit Text

सुधासिन्धोर्मध्ये सुरविट-पीवाटी-परिवृते
मणिद्वीपे नीपो-पवनवति चिन्तामणि गृहे
शिवकारे मञ्चे परमशिव पर्यङ्क निलयं
भजन्ति त्वां धन्याः कतिचन चिदानन्द-लहरीं

Transliteration:

sudhA sindhOr madhyE suraviTapivAti parivrutE
maNi dwIpE nipOpavanavati cintAmaNi gruhE
shivAkArE mancE paramashiva paryanka nilayam
bhajanti tvAm dhanyAh katicana chidAnanda laharIm


Meaning:

In the middle of the ocean of ambrosia is an island made of precious gems, surronded by wish-granting Kalpavrukshas. On this island, in a garden of Kadamba trees, is a house made of chintaamani (wish granting gem).  In this house, on the holy seat of the lap of Lord Shiva, she sits, the one who is like a tide in the sea of happiness of the ultimate truth. The one who is worshipped by a select few fortunate great ones.

Pooja Vidhi and Proposed Result :

If one chants this verse for 1000 times each day for 12 days, offering pepper rice or payasam as prasadam, then it is said that one would get released from all bonds and get all their wishes fulfilled.

அமிர்த சாகர மத்யே மணித்வீபத்தில்
வளரும் அம்பிகே பகவதியே

அமைந்த மனித்வீபத்தை அலங்காரமாகச் சுற்றி
அமைந்த கதம்ப வனம் அழகாக தோன்றும் சுற்றி

சிந்தாமணி எனும் சிறந்த ரத்தினத்தாலே
சுந்தரி மகிழவே ஸ்ரீபுரம் அமைத்திட
சிந்தை களிக்கும் சிவசக்தியின் ஆகாரமான
அந்தப்புர மஞ்சத்தில் அம்சதூளி மெத்தையின் மேல்

பரமசிவ ரூபமே படுக்கைமேல் ஸ்தானமாக
ஸரஸ சல்லாபமாக சயனம் தன்னில் இருக்க
பரமஞான பக்தர்கள் பெரியோர்கள் தரிசிக்க
கருணை சுகப்ரவாக கண்ணே விசாலமே
