Background :

A beautiful song in Anandavalli ragam and Aadi talam. The song is directed towards Radha, coaxing her to go and meet Krishna.

புன்னை மர நிழலில் அந்த போக்கிரி கண்ணனை பார், ராதே

உன்னை மயக்க குழல் எடுத்து ஊதுகிறான் திருடன்

ஆநிரை துள்ளி வரும், அந்த அமுத கானம் பருக

மாநிலமும் மழங்கும், அந்த மாயோன் புல்லாங்குழலில் ராதே

சோலைபூக்கள் மதுவை மிகு சொரிந்து குடுக்குதடி

காலை புல்லின் மடியில் பனிப்போல் கண்ணில் நீர் தேங்குதடி

நீ வருவாய் எனவே, ராதே, நீ வருவாய் எனவே

கண்ணன் நிக்கின்றான், போ அவன் முன்

காலம் கடன்தில்லயேல் வெண்ணை களவாடசென்றிடுவான் ராதே

Punnai mara nizhalil antha pokkiri kaNNanai paar
unnai mazhakka kuzhal eduththu Oothugiraan thirudan

AaniRai thuLLi varum, antha amutha gaanam paruga
maanilamum mazhangum, antha maaya pullanguzhalil raadhe

sOlai pookkaL mathuvai migu sorinthu kudukkuthadi
kaalai pullin madiyil paNipol kaNNil neer thaenguthadi

nee varuvaai enave, raadhe, nee varuvaai enave
kaNNai nikkindraan po avan munn
kaalam kadanthillaiEl veNNai kaLavaada
chendriduvaan raadhe


Translation :
O Radha! Have a look at the mischievous Krishna (Kannan) under the Punnai (Ballnut or Punnaga in Sanskrit). That stealer-of-hearts is playing his hypnotizing flute.

Herds of cows come running to hear his ambrosia like music, the entire district is hypnotized under the spell of that hypnotizing flute.

Look how the flowers in the garden are offering nectar [to the bees] and notice how teardrops have got collected on your eyelids like dew drops collecting on top of blades of grass in mornings.

He is waiting there, expecting that you would come to him. Go to him. If you delay, he would leave to sneak out butter [from somebody's house].
