Monkeys in a Cage

A Group of Scientists placed 5 monkeys in a cage and in the middle of the cage a Ladder with Banana at the top.

Everytime a Monkey tried to climb the ladder - the Scientists splashed cold water on the other Monkeys.

After a while everytime a Monkey tried to climb up the ladder - the other monkeys would beat up the one on the ladder.

After sometime - none of the Monkeys dared to climb the ladder regardless of the temptation.

After sometime the Scientists substituted one of the Monkeys and the first thing the new Monkey would do was to climb up the ladder and immediately the other Monkeys would beat him up though the scientists had stopped splashing cold water on them. After several attempts the new Monkey learnt not to climb the ladder even though he never knew why.

The 2nd Monkey was substituted and the same thing happened including the first substituted Monkey participating in the beating process.

This process continued when the 3rd, 4th and the 5th Monkeys were replaced. So we had 5 monkeys in the cage - none of them were splashed water when one of them tried to climb the ladder - yet none of them dared to climb the ladder.

If it was possible to for the monkeys to answer to the question
`Why they beat the Monkeys that go up the ladder'??
I bet the answer would be:: "I DONT KNOW - THIS IS HOW THINGS ARE DONE HERE"

 Doesn't this sound familiar?
