The South Indian Welfare Association (SIWA) of Navi Mumbai, has done a commendable job by constructing a fully furnished centre for performing Apara Kriya (Performing post death rites), at Kopar Khairane, Navi Mumbai.
The foundation stone for the centre was laid by His Holiness Jagadguru Jayendra Saraswathi of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. The centre was inagurated in May 2002.
The centre has been named SAAYUJYAM and has 12 fully furnished rooms with Kitchen. The families can stay for all the 12 days at the centre itself and perform the post death rites as prescribed in our scriptures. All the rooms are well equipped with utensils for the Rites and cooking including cooking gas. It also has a well furnished spacious hall (which can accomodate upto 350 persons) for holding condolence meetings. A well has also been nicely constructed at the centre of the building; the water from which can be used in the rites. The centre also has enough public convenience facilities to cater for the people staying and for those who come for kriyas to take bath.
The charges are extremely reasonable (almost negligible). For deserving cases, the facilities are offered free of cost.
Our Dharma Shastras have proclaimed "Matr Devo Bhava, Pitr Devo Bhava" (be one to whom the Mother & Father is a deity). We must treat our parents with respect and do all we can do to keep them happy and in comfort. We cannot compensate them for all the sacrifices they have made for us. After they depart from this mortal word, we must without fail offer libations to them and perform their post death ceremonies as prescribed in the scriptures.
It is the duty of every son to perform the post death ceremonies as prescribed in the scriptures with faith and reverence. In their subtle form after death, the departed soul can quench their thirst and satisfy its hunger only through the libations offered by their son. Else, it is said that they would suffer immensely of thirst and hunger. Hence, the lord himself has extolled the merits of performance of these rites in the Garuda Purana.
Keeping the above in mind, SIWA SAAYUJYAM, has been built so as to facilitate those who are in search for a suitable place for performing such rites.

Incidently, the above centre is efficiently managed by a group of like minded persons, who are young in their age but who have great vision.
The centre is run on a no loss no profit basis.
This project is for a very noble cause and a is a unique project of its kind in Navi Mumbai and Mumbai. Our shastras and Acharyas have time and again extolled the merits of participating in such karma.
