I just came out of a meeting that had lasted for over two hours. The purpose of the meeting was that one of my senior colleagues wanted to present a new scheme related to the departmental functioning. The good news was that everybody present was in favour of the new scheme. Of course, certain minor corrections/adjustments were suggested, quickly accepted and got incorporated.
But, I wouldn't have posted a 'Combustion', if matters were so simple. Would I?
The problems arouse when some of the senior people (or should I say very senior or super-senior) with more than two decades of experience came into the meeting room and started 'sharing' their points of view. Matters got pretty much out of hand as the meeting turned away from being a discussion to being a war of words or a 'Who can shout the loudest?' contest.
Perhaps, they were more interested in who gets the last word rather than the 'scheme' under discussion. Seemingly mundane words triggered altercations, which, fortunately did not turn into fist-fights, thanks to the inconvenient arrangement of chairs and tables separating the participants.
Anyway, that thing is past now and the well-thought of scheme got everybody's approval.
Imbibe the good qualities of your seniors and ignore the bad ones for a great working atmosphere. Good luck....:-)
